In its sixth generation, the 2017 Subaru Legacy has proved popular thanks to its standard all-wheel drive and massive passenger space (one of the largest among midsize sedans). New for 2017 is the Legacy 2.5i Sport model, based on the 2.5i Premium trim with unique exterior styling, 18-inch wheels, special interior trim and upgraded content.
In addition to the wheels, the Sport model is distinguished by a dark gray front grille, fog lights with gloss black housings as well as chrome and high-luster silver accents. On the inside, the seats are upholstered in two-tone gray and black, contrasted with blue stitching on the seats. Piano-black switches and carbon fiber accents on the dashboard and door panels complete the unique look.
Standard features on the Sport model include the Starlink 7.0 Multimedia Plus system, which has a high-resolution 7-inch LCD screen, dual USB ports and Bluetooth hands-free SMS text messaging. The 2017 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Sport model is powered by a 175 horsepower, 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that gets a 29 combined mpg.
For 2017, there are five trim levels available on the Subaru Legacy. Four models – the base 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Sport and 2.5i Limited –are all powered by the 2.5-liter engine paired with a continuously variable transmission with a six-speed manual shift mode. The 2017 Subaru Legacy 3.6R Limited has a 256 horsepower, six-cylinder engine that gets 23 combined mpg. The 3.6R is paired with a high-torque continuously variable transmission with six-speed manual shift mode.
All models have Subaru’s unique EyeSight driver assist technology system available. In addition to adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, EyeSight also features high beam assist, which automatically switches between high and low beams depending on oncoming traffic, and reverse auto brake, which can apply the brakes when in reverse if a possible collision is detected.
The starting price for the 2017 Subaru Legacy is $21,995, while the 2017 Infiniti QX30 Sport starts at $38,500. Price as tested: $28,910 for 2017 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Sport with EyeSight, navigation system, high beam assist, reverse auto brake, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert.
